Faulkner St. men, women sweep Southern Union

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Faulkner State men ended homecoming on a high note Thursday night as they defeated the Southern Union Bison 99-75.

The first seven minutes of the game was an even battle with an 11-11 tie with 14:30 left in the first half but Faulkner's baskets came alive with a 31-11 run to give the Sun Chiefs the 22-point lead. Before halftime Southern Union was able to manage to close that gap to 15 as Faulkner took the lead into halftime 50-35. Faulkner came out strong in the second half of play as they dominated the action early on with a 10-3 run, 60-38. Late in the second half, with the score 89-54, Southern Union tried to make a run of their own by out scoring the Sun Chiefs 13-2 but the damage was too much as Faulkner closed the game 99-75 and a 4-1 record in the Southern division.

Kennon Washington had a career high 37 points for Faulkner, Bo Gipson had 13 points,Tevin Bradley 12 while Mike Washington and Darnelle Johnson aided with 11 points each.

JC Winn led the Bison with 20 points followed by D'Angelo Roberson with 12.

Faulkner State will host Chattahoochee Valley on Feb 12. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Southern Union 28

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Faulkner State Lady Sun Chiefs dominated the Lady Bison of Southern Union 67-28 on Thursday during Faulkner's homecoming celebration. The Lady Sun Chiefs took a commanding 42-10 lead in the first half.

Faulkner kept the lead going in the second half with a 50-14 lead until Southern Union started a 9-3 run to attempt to close the gap,53-23. It was short lived as the Sun Chiefs came back with a 10-1 run. Both teams were able to score an additional four points each before the final buzzer to close the game out at 67-28.

Alexis Broussard and Sheena Houston led the Lady Sun Chiefs with 11 points a piece, while Megan Harris had eight points. Carmilla Milton and Johnquesha Childs aided with seven points each and Kenyetta Whitter with six. Five other Faulkner State players assisted in the win.

Jyssica Perry led the Southern Union Lady Bison with the game high of 12 points. Perry shot 10 for 14 from the free throw line.

Faulkner's next home game is Feb 12th against division leader Chattahoochee Valley. game time is set for 3 p.m.
