• Sun Chiefs teams turn in outstanding records before holiday break. Set for strong second half runs beginning Jan. 7

BAY MINETTE, Ala.—WOMEN: The Faulkner State Community College Lady Sun Chiefs finished up the first half of their season with a 7-1 record. Coach Linda Pitts' team rolled the 2015 part of their schedule with only one loss, a 70-66 setback in Louisiana to LSU-Eunice. The FSCC women return to action on Jan. 7 in Selma against Wallace and then at home on Jan. 12 against LB Wallace.

In that game, Faulkner got 18 points from Yasmine Beasley to lead all scorers. Angel Carthen added 13 points while Jasmine Lee-Stackhouse had 12. Latia Pullum scored nine for FSCC. Carthen dominated on the backboards with 15 rebounds. Beasley and Pullum had three steals apiece and Nakira Seals had five assists.

In their final games of 2015, Pitts' team registered big wins over Delgado of New Orleans 56-39, Spring Hill 73-29, and Talladega 68-28. In the victory over Delgado, Carthen had a game best 21 points and also pulled down ten rebounds. Lee-Stackhouse added eleven points and Beasley joined them in double figures with ten points. In their final game of 2015, FSCC won by 40 against Talladega. Lee-Stackhouse and Carthen had twelve points. A'Jaspin Whitfield joined them in double digits with ten points. Beasley had four blocks for Pitts' squad.

MEN: If the 2016 portion of the Faulkner State Community College's men basketball team is anything like the first half, it will be quite a successful season.

Faulkner will return to action on the hardwoods on Thursday, Jan. 7 at Wallace-Selma on the road and then return home on Jan. 12 for a conference contest against Lurleen B Wallace in Bay Minette.

The opening half of the season saw the defending state champions go 11-2 and close out the 2015 part of their slate with a four game winning streak. Coach Jack Robertson's Sun Chiefs also went 6-0 on their home floor in 2015. In those wins Faulkner had a pair of big wins and a pair of runaway victories.

They defeated a good Baton Rouge Community College team on a neutral site in Tuscaloosa by a 75-72 margin. FSCC had four players in double digit scoring with Kennan Warren's 17 points leading the way. Cordero Dade added 15 as both he and Warren came off the bench to lead the Chiefs.

Rodney Gill added 13 points while Keion Brown had ten. Warren had seven rebounds as did Devin Charles. Charles also had six blocks inside for Faulkner State.

FSCC then rolled past Spring Hill JV 96-53 as four players again reached double figures in the scoring column. Gill had a game high 31 while Anthony Thomas added 15. Charles netted 13 while Dade added ten points. Dade led all on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds. Charles had ten rebounds for the Sun Chiefs. Montez Brown had eight assists in the game.

Faulkner avenged one of their earlier losses and knocked off Shelton State 88-80 in Bay Minette on Dec. 5, . Shelton had edged FSCC 96-89 in overtime in Tuscaloosa early in the year. Warren had 22 to pace Robertson's team. Austin Samuel scored 19 for FSCC while Gill added 14 and Montez Brown dropped in nine. Samuel's eleven rebounds led the Chiefs while Brown had six assists and Warren had three steals.

On Dec. 10, FSCC romped over University of Mobile JV 99-62 as 18 players played for the Chiefs. Dade's 24 points paced all scorers with Montez Brown adding 19, Samuel scoring twelve and Gill dropping in eleven.
