BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Faulkner State’s College Bowl Academic Team has been invited to the National Academic Quiz Tournaments Intercollegiate Championship after finishing in the top four colleges at the NAQT Community College Championship Tournament in February.
The Intercollegiate Championship Tournament will field 64 teams from across the nation. Awards for the top teams include: Division I (Overall), Division I (undergraduate), Division II (Overall), top eight individual scorers (Division I), top eight individual scorers (Division II), and the top four undergraduate scorers. Faulkner State will be competing in the Division II category.
The Community College Championship was held in Atlanta, and Faulkner State’s A-team competed against other community college teams across the nation. The A-team members were: Captain Ben Beard, Paul Kossik and Ashley Owens, sophomores; and freshman Alex Place.
“I am pleased with the team’s performance,” said College Bowl Sponsor Professor Charles Hoequist. “Faulkner State’s team posted an 8-3 record, despite playing against much older, more experienced students.”
After finishing in the top four teams, Faulkner State was invited to the Intercollegiate Championship Tournament on April 8-9 in Rosemont, Illinois, where they will compete in Division II against four-year colleges for an overall title.
