GULF SHORES, AL - Weather should not be a problem for the Feb. 13 Art Market, an event of the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance, in partnership with the City of Gulf Shores.
The Art Market will be inside from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 309 E. 21st Ave. in Gulf Shores.
Visitors to this event can expect to find original works of art by local and regional artists such as Alex Stoll. Stoll is a winter resident of Gulf Shores, but lives full time in Collins, Ohio.
He is a third generation welder who learned his craft from his father and grandfather. As a young boy, Stoll remembers watching his grandfather make horseshoes in his blacksmithing and forging business in Ohio.
Later, Stoll became a welder at the Lorain Ship Yards where he perfected his welding skills under the guidance of European craftsmen who took him under their wing. In 1983, Stoll began experimenting with steel art.
Through years of trial and error, he created a unique style of art made from aluminum and stainless steel, which is maintenance and rust free. His pieces are realistic depictions of birds, animals, flowers, butterflies and many other natural forms.
Stoll’s work will be displayed along with the works of more than 30 artists on Feb. 13. There will also be home baked goods along with delicious concessions.
