Fern Doris Baqir

Fern Doris Baqir, 82, former resident of Foley and Montgomery and a resident of Houston, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 in Houston.

She was born Dec. 12, 1928 in St. Clair, Mo., the daughter of Harold Eugene Hoff Sr. and Mary Alma Marie McCrary Hoff. She was united in marriage in June of 1963 to Ghalib Muhammed Baquir and was belssed to have two children.

She was a devoted Christian and a member of Louetta Baptist Church in Houston. As a girl, she grew up as a member of Bethel Missionary Church in Lonedell, Mo.

During the many years she lived in Alabama, she was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was also active in helping to deliver meals on wheels and was a member of the Red Hat Society in Alabama.

She was an outgoing lady with a love for life. Singing, especially with her sisters, was a favoritate pasttime, as was playing the piano. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching sports on television.

She loved cats and dogs and had enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, especially her little dog, Sparky. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family and her keen sense of humor and a beautiful smile will be missed by them all.

She was a devoted and loving whife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great aunt, cousin and friend and she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold E. “Bud” Hoff Jr. and infant William Hoff; and a sister, Helen Jean Russell Redhage.

Survivors include her husband, Ghalib Baqir of Houston; twop children, Pam Eastwold (fience Mike Tashman) of Houston and Russell Baqir of Blaine, Minn.; one grandson, James Eastwold of Houston; two brothers, Richard (Rosie) Hoff and John (Joyce) Hoff of St. Clair; four sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Joan (Ken) Burnett, Libby Reed and Carol Rae (Jim) Todisman, all of St. Clair; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces, great-grand nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Bethel Baptist Church in Lonedell with the Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Lonedell.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the ASPCA.
