The finals days of the summer season came and went last week without much notice. The air was still thick with heat and humidity and kids still played in the sand and water. Soon, the weather will be changing bringing cooler days and chilly nights.
For Baldwin Countians, that means the beginning of the fall festival season.
Last weekend, the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce hosted the 21st annual Jubilee Festival in Olde Towne Daphne. The event featured arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, a children’s art village and live entertainment.
While the Baldwin County Fair isn’t technically a festival, residents still come together to celebrate the county’s heritage with exhibits in the coliseum including arts and crafts, as well as canning. A rodeo is also held annually at the event, as is a livestock show. And, you can’t forget the midway with its games and rides. The fair begins at the Baldwin County Fairgrounds in Robertsdale this week and will end on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, the Robertsdale Fire Department and the Baldwin County Beekeepers will hold their annual Honeybee Festival in Robertsdale’s Honeybee Park along Alabama Highway 59. The event benefits the fire department and will include a parade, live entertainment, arts and crafts, food, children’s activities and a live auction.
The Blakeley Bluegrass Festival at Blakeley State Park will also be Saturday, Oct. 3. Music starts at 10 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call 626-5581 for information.
The 38th annual National Shrimp Festival will be held Oct. 8 to 11 in Gulf Shores. With more than 300 vendors and, of course, a lot of shrimp, this festival is organized by the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce. Two stages will offer continuous live entertainment and there will also be a children’s activity area.
Rosinton School is having a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct.10 from 5 to 8 p.m. Activities include an Old-Tyme Hayride, sand art, face painting, bake sale and more. Festival food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks along with cotton candy and popcorn. The PTO will presale armbands and tickets before and after school the week of the event. The Town of Silverhill will celebrate Heritage Day on Oct. 17 in the town center with live entertainment, children’s activities and arts and crafts.
On Oct. 31, treat yourself to a sausage dog at the Elberta German Sausage Festival, complete with music, food, carnival rides and arts and crafts.
