At 8 a.m. Saturday morning more than 20 adult softball teams gathered at the Gulf Shores sportplex for the opening ceremonies of the Super Slugger Softball Tournament. The fun and frivolity went on into the night as the teams competed and played hard. But the main reason was to raise money for cancer, particularly cancer that strikes children. This charity event is hosted by compassionate supporters of the Byrd Family in tribute to their son Jensen who lost a hard battle with cancer at the tender age of 5. All proceeds from the event will be donated. Last year’s event raised more than $10,000.
Hug your children and loved ones. Life is fragile and fleeting at times.
