PENSACOLA — The Fifth annual Pensacola International Film Festival will take place Oct. 26–28. Once again, for those wishing to enjoy movie watching outside, catch the free movie premieres at 7:30 p.m. nightly on the jumbo movie screen outside the T.T. Wentworth building. Ticket-free viewing can be seen in the comfort of your own lawn chair from the advantageous view on “The Green” in Ferdinand Plaza. All other screenings will take place at the Gulf Breeze Cinema 4.
“Lillie & Leander: A Legacy of Violence” will kick off the PIFF at the T.T. Wentworth building at 7:30 p.m. The film is a feature-length documentary that examines the case of a black man suspected of raping and murdering a white woman at the turn of the 20th century in Pensacola. Investigating the cold-case murder of her great-great aunt, a woman stumbles upon an explosive secret that hints at her own family’s involvement in decades of racially charged murders.
When the State Attorney gets involved, an investigation begins in full force. More than a crime investigation, “Lillie & Leander” addresses the racism that still simmers in many U.S. communities through a powerful, unforgettable tale of family secrets unlocked.
