The City of Gulf Shores Public Works Department and contractors continue to work as fast as possible cleaning up debris from Hurricane Sally. Since collection began on Sept. 17, crews have collected well over 480,000 cubic yards of debris within the city limits of Gulf Shores.
The final pass for Hurricane Sally debris collection for City of Gulf Shores managed streets begins today, Dec. 1, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 13. Residents are asked to bring all remaining debris to the roadside at this time to ensure all hurricane debris is picked up as quickly as possible.
After Dec. 13, regular yard debris pickup schedules will resume. To see which day your home is scheduled to have a pickup, and for more information on what items are permissible for regular roadside debris pickup, please visit https://www.gulfshoresal.gov/314/Trash-Recycling.
Residents should continue sorting all debris at the roadside through Dec. 13. The City is requesting that residents separate debris into six different categories on the curb:
- Electronics such as televisions, computers, stereos, phones and DVD players.
- Large appliances such as refrigerators, washer/dryers, air conditioners, stoves, water heaters and dishwashers.
- Hazardous waste such as oil, battery, pesticide, paint, cleaning supplies and compressed gas.
- Vegetative debris such as tree branches, leaves, logs and plants.
- Construction debris such as building materials, drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture and plumbing.
- Household garbage, such as bagged garbage, discarded food, paper and packaging, should be placed in your trash receptacle.
- Hazardous materials will no longer be picked up after Dec. 13.
As of Dec. 13, contractors will resume responsibility for hauling off any job site debris.
As a reminder, debris should not block the roadway and avoid trees, poles and other structures. We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews continue to work diligently to remove all remaining debris as safely and efficiently as possible.
