Foley, Ala. - Foley Fire Chief Joseph Darby said that last Tuesday's fire that destroyed a one-story house on Emerille Drive was started by three juveniles playing with fire inside the garage.
"There were more than three juveniles in the house," Darby said, noting the investigation revealed that the fire was unintentional. "They were playing with fire. I cannot go into details on what exactly they were doing."
Darby also confirmed that all occupants of the house escaped the incident safely.
The State Fire Marshall's Office is still working the case, Darby said.
Darby said the neighboring houses were protected first and foremost because of "the fire development and progression due to the wind."
"It is the worst case scenario for us when you have a fire developing that fast and houses that close," he said.
There was a two-door Ford vehicle in the driveway that was burnt by the fire. Darby said that the exact make and model of the vehicle was unavailable due to the damage from the incident.
Darby said he believes the fire was discovered right and dispatch was called immediately after at 12:24 p.m.
