Firefighters contain Seminole blaze; no injuries, no structural damage reported

SEMINOLE, Alabama – There were no injuries and no structural damage reported as firefighters in Seminole contained a woods fire that burned more than 400 acres on Monday.

“There might be a few hot spots left, but for the most part it’s all over,” said Chief Kenny Ping with the Seminole Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday.

Crews were called in at about 1:30 p.m. on the private property located on Hunting Club Road in Seminole.

“We were able to secure all the surrounding structures and keep everyone safe,” Ping said.

A total of 35 volunteers from the Seminole and Beaulah fire departments worked the blaze for nearly four hours, Ping said, utilizing tanker trucks and six brush tankers.

The property includes a Christmas tree farm and blueberry farm, “but it was mostly timberland,” Ping said.

Officials with the Alabama Forestry Commission are currently investigating the cause of the fire, Ping said.

“We believe it was deliberately set,” he said.
