U.S. Navy veteran Gary Frank held a flag raising to honor all veterans and POW/MIAs Wednesday, Nov. 6, at his home in Rosinton. Frank said he hopes to make the flag raising an annual event in order to honor our nation’s heroes. “It’s been said that if a nation forgets its heroes, that nation will soon be forgotten,” Frank said. “I’m doing this in hopes that word will spread that we can’t afford to forget about our heroes and not only will more people participate in this program, but that others will do what I’m doing.” The Rev. Wesley Enfinger, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, presented the invocation, followed by the flag raising and the singing of the National Anthem by the Blessed Hope Boys Academy Choir of Seminole Baptist Church. Two flags were raised during the ceremony, a U.S. flag, donated by Kichler-Pippen VFW Post 5658 of Elberta, and a POW/MIA flag, donated by the American Legion of Bay Minette. Guest speaker was U.S. Air Force veteran Maj. Dan Lowery, followed by recognition of military services and the singing of “God Bless America” led by the boys choir. The Rev. Gary Wiggens of the Blessed Hope Boys Academy closed the ceremony with prayer.
