FOLEY, Ala. — Local boys and girls will have the opportunity to learn about buying and selling at a flea market for kids.
Beginning Sunday, March 28, Foley Indoor Flea Market is sponsoring the flea market to give kids a chance to re-sell their “gently used” toys, books and games. The flea market for kids will be held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Sunday.
Foley Indoor Flea Market is located at 14809 Ala. Hwy 59 in north Foley.
“It’s a good opportunity to teach kids the value of money and how to make decisions for themselves,” said Tammy White, collections manager for the Flea Market.
“We want them to know something about how the economy works.”
According to White, the Flea Market will provide a space for a child to sell his or her used items at whatever price the child decides. Quality toys and other items at a discount price is the objective.
The cost per booth (approximately 10’ by 10’) is $5. The child gets the opportunity to run his or her own “business” for a few hours and learn about merchandising, handling money and making change, negotiating and bargaining, and even make new friends.
“We’re hoping that a lot of local boys and girls will come out and take part in this learning experience,” White said.
Those interested in signing up for a booth or with questions should call (251) 943-6349.
Space is limited and booths will be awarded on a first come, first served basis on Sunday. Set up time is 12 p.m. and children and their families should bring their own tables, chairs, blankets and whatever is needed to display items.
All items must be clearly priced, be in good condition and complete, and each child should bring a cash box with lots of small bills and change.
All booths are inside and protected from the weather.
White said this will also give moms a chance to clean out toys that been outgrown or whose interest has been lost while providing the child with a little extra money.
