Gulf Shores Police were contacted by hospital staff of the Perdido Bay Emergency Room on June 24 to report that they were attending to a patient who was the victim of a sexual assault that had occurred in Gulf Shores.
The victim disclosed to detectives that she had been the victim of a sexual assault the morning of June 24. The victim reported she had met her attacker on the internet but did not otherwise know or associate with him.
The investigation led to the identification of the suspect, Daniel Windell Piggott, a 25-year-old from Tampa, Fla. An arrest warrant was issued for Piggott for rape in the first degree, and he was taken into custody without incident June 25. He is currently free on a $10,000 bond with an ankle monitor.
Based on the investigation, detectives believe there may be other victims that have not come forward to the police.
