LOXLEY, Ala. — Baldwin County Sherif Huey “Hoss” Mack identified a man found dead on Truck Trail 17, off of Brady Road near Loxley as William Oliver Grunden, 57, of Pensacola.
“This is a dirt road about 13 miles east of Loxley,” said Mack. He added the road was north of Interstate 10.
Grunden was found dead beside the driver’s door of his 2005 red Nissan Pathfinder by a hunter, Mack said.
“The engine was still running,” said Mack. He added that Loxley police were notified about the death around 6 p.m. It appeared that Grunden suffered an injury to the head. Mack said that at this time it “did not appear” to be a hunting accident.
The incident is being classed as a homicide, Mack said.
An autopsy was scheduled for Friday, but officials did not have the results.
The Baldwin District Attorney’s office, the Sheriff’s Office and the Escambia Sheriff’s Office are working together on the case. The last place Grunden was seen alive was in Escambia County, Mack said.
The public can be of help in this matter. The Sheriff’s Office is trying to track Grunden’s movements that day. Anyone with information about the case or who might have seen Grunden or his truck, is asked to call the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office at (251) 937-0202 or (251) 972-6802.
