LOXLEY, Alabama — Loxley police are searching for a Florida man in connection with an attempted burglary which occurred a few days before Christmas.

According to a press release issued by the Loxley Police Department, officers received a call at around 1:35 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22 of an attempted burglary at a home on County Road 68.

“The victim was home at the time and was able to give a description of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle,” said Officer Billy Coley, LPD public information officer. Later that day, police stopped a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle at Love’s Truck Stop on Highway 59 at I-10.

Paul Wayne Kleinatland, 31, of Summerdale was arrested at the scene, charged with first degree receiving stolen property and second degree possession of marijuana. Kleinatland was later released from the Baldwin County Corrections Facility on a $1,000 bond.

Another suspect, identified as Shawn A. Gurley, 36, a resident of Tampa, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website, fled on foot from the scene, Coley said.

A K-9 unit from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched in an attempt to track the suspect, but because of inclement weather, the search was called off, Coley said.

Gurley is described as a white male, brown hair, brown eyes, approximately 5 foot, 10, 170 pounds. He is wanted on charges of second degree attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, bringing stolen property into the state of Alabama, receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The Florida Department of Corrections website lists a string of arrests for Gurley, including burglary, grand theft, robbery and weapons charges, dating back to 1991. He was recently released from the Florida Department of Corrections after serving a nine-year sentence on robbery with a gun/deadly weapons charges from 2002.

Anyone with information leading to the arrest of Gurley should call the Loxley Police Department at 251-964-6000.
