Floy Vance Macon

Floy Vance Macon went to sleep peacefully at home on April 27, 2015 after suffering from a long illness. He was 64 years old, born on Sept. 3, 1950 in Mobile, Ala. He was a longtime resident of Flora, Miss.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, William C. Macon and Margaret Taylor Macon; and sister, Jane Macon Kelly.

He is survived by his former wife, Becky Macon of Ridgeland, Miss.; his son, Kevin (Amy) Macon of Brandon, Miss.; his daughter, Karen (Don Taylor) Macon of Madison, Miss.; his brother, Leslie “Pete” (Kate) Macon of Silverhill, Ala.; his grandchildren, Christian Taylor and Kaitlyn Taylor; and many nieces, nephews and aunts.

Vance grew up in Robertsdale, Ala., and during his school years helped his dad and brother in Macon Drug Store in Robertsdale where they were well known in the community.

He began his career with Irby Construction Co. out of Jackson, Miss. at the age of 19. The company was an extensive power line contractor in the United States and some jobs overseas. In the early years, he traveled with his family to projects in various states, Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, and in 1975 traveled to Indonesia for a job there where he and his family spent about a year.

Upon his return, he began a position as estimator for bidding for work for the company and ultimately became manager of the bidding department. He loved his work and made many friends in the company over the years.

He retired in 2013, then spent his time woodworking in his shop, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He loved the outdoors and being close to nature, which strengthened his faith in God. He will rest in peace beside his mother, father and sister, and be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Mack Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be held in Hail Memorial Cemetery in Robertsdale.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at Mack Funeral Home Saturday, May 2, 2015.
