Floyd Douglas “Buck” Plash, 86, a lifelong resident of Plash Island on the Alabama coast, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 15, 2014.
Buck graduated from Foley High School in 1946.
He served proudly with L Company of the 45th Infantry Division (Thunderbirds) during the Korean War.
He was a lifelong member of Oyster Bay Baptist Church, where he served on the House and Grounds Committee for more than 50 years, and was an honorary deacon.
He owned and operated the shrimp trawlers Lucky and Lucky Boy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura “Kroutter” Plash; four brothers, John, Charles, James and Melvin; and two sisters, Evelyn and Mary.
Buck Plash is survived by his wife, Carolyn Miller Plash of Gulf Shores; sons, John “Douglas” Plash (Jaye) of Foley and Charles “Floyd” Plash (Cherry) of Ocean Springs, Miss.; daughter, Carolyn Ann Plash Wood (Robbie) of Gulf Shores; eight grandchildren, Kristy Plash Stewart (Kirk) of Memphis, Tenn., Jennifer Plash Boyette (Adam) of Meridian, Miss., Robert Plash of Omaha, Neb., Michael Plash (Elena) of Ocean Springs, Miss., Melissa Plash Knight (Chris) of Fairhope, Kevin Plash of Houston, Texas, Nathan Wood of Auburn and Zach Wood of Gulf Shores; four great-grandchildren, Addison Boyette of Meridian, Miss., Hannah Boyette of Meridian, Miss., Shelby Stewart of Memphis, Tenn. and Alexandria Stewart of Memphis, Tenn.; and a sister, Norma Plash Wenzel of Foley.
Funeral services will be held from Oyster Bay Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Oyster Bay Baptist Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials be made to the Oyster Bay Baptist Church Building Fund.
