FOLEY — As of Aug. 1, the city of Foley will be a little bigger, thanks to recent annexation by legislative act.
Areas slated to become part of Foley’s city limits include 265.8 acres of property along U.S. Highway 98 East and flanking both sides of the Foley Beach Expressway. In addition, approximately 1.49 acres of Willow Lakes Estates phases I and II, along County Road 12, will be included. So will approximately 393.5 acres of the Springdale subdivision, a portion of which is located off Foley Beach Expressway below County Road 24 and the rest of which is located at Foley Beach Expressway, which is to the west of Woerner Road.
Alabama Sen. Tripp Pittman presented the annexation proposal during a March 14 legislative session of the Senate. Gov. Robert Bentley signed the bill into law in May, with the Foley City Council formally voting to accept the legislation last week.
In its work session, Foley City Council President Wayne Trawick suggested sending a letter to residents of the affected areas to introduce them to city regulations and responsibilities.
“I know we had some confusion in Bon Secour awhile back,” he said.
The Council agreed to do so by mid-July.
