Foley blasts BCHS 35-0

BAY MINETTE – The Foley Lions proved once again that they are the "Kings of Baldwin County" as they traveled to Baldwin County High and defeated them 35-0.

The Lions were able to dominate the entire game from the opening kick off. D'marsjae Casey opened up with a 46-yard touchdown run in the fifth play of the game.

BCHS senior standout Charleston Gandy, who was playing with a hamstring injury, returned the kick off for 16 yards to give the Tigers their first possession on the 18 yard line. Due to a few miscues BCHS was unable to capitalize on the first possession as Gandy ran for a total of 46 yards.

Kalif Koen could not be out done by his teammate so with 4:18 left on the clock in the first quarter he ran in a 47-yard touchdown himself. BCHS was still unable to knock the opening cob webs out as sophomore quarterback Jordan Ebert threw an interception. Junior Kevin Radford caught the interception for Foley. 11 plays and 61 yards later senior Marcus Washington scored another touchdown for the Lions with 9:08 left on the clock giving them the 21-0 lead going into half time.

The opening kickoff for the second half looked promising for Gandy as he ran 16 yards in three plays but was stopped short of the first down in his fourth run of the second half. Gandy then would not see anymore action for the night as his hamstring injury started bothering him. The first possession of the second quarter was reminiscent to the first for the Foley lions as Koen had another 59 yard sprint only to be stopped by the Tigers’ Byron Barnes at the one yard line. Washington  went ahead and ran in the touchdown on the next play giving the Lions the 28-0 advantage.

The Tigers’ next possession was a quick three and out allowing Foley to regain the ball on their own 43-yard line.

After marching down to the two yard line Baldwin County corner Justin Stevens went down with a dislocated ankle and was immediately taken to North Baldwin Infirmary.

After the play resumed Washington walked in his third touchdown of the night sealing Baldwin County’s fate with the 35-0 victory.

After the game both teams met at the 50 yard line for a unity meeting to encourage both teams on the rest of the season.

"This was a big win for Foley, any region win is big but being able to do it on the road is always tough,” Foley head coach Todd Watson said. “We had some bounces to go our way I agree and I give it to Coach David Wofford he always has his team ready to give it their all. I expect a few more wins out of them (Baldwin County) this coming season."

"We never got our rhythm tonight,” BCHS coach David Wofford said. “It is back to the drawing board for us but we will use this loss as a stepping stone for the remainder of the year."

Baldwin County goes on the road this Thursday night to Montgomery to play in the Crampton Bowl where they will face Robert E. Lee High School.

"Thursday night in the Crampton Bowl will be tough for us,” Wofford said earlier this season of the Lee game. “Lee is always a tough foe and then you are adding the Crampton Bowl on Thursday night which this will be the hottest ticket of the night so I am expecting the atmosphere to not be in our favor but will be a good challenge."

Foley will host Fairhope next Friday night at 7 pm.
