FOLEY – Malcolm Barnett waited for the perfect moment to score his first and only points for Foley on Monday against Bayside.
Barnett’s three-pointer with under 30 seconds to play in the game gave Foley a one point lead on the way to a 48-46 win over the visiting Admirals.
“(Michael) Holmes was hot all night but got cold there in the fourth quarter,” Foley coach Chad Anderson said. “Malcolm came in and made a huge shot. Malcolm always hits big shots at big times for us.”
Barnett’s three came after another Lion, Marcus Washington, hit a three to pull Foley within two points with around one minute to play. Bayside Academy held a lead for most of the third and fourth periods.
“We have been outscored in the third and fourth 45-25 this year,” Anderson said. “I saw it happening again tonight, so I told the team at a timeout that it was time for them to grow up and finish a game. They responded very well tonight. That is a credit to these guys.”
Foley led 24-21 at the half after trailing 15-13 at the end of the first period.
Foley’s Michael Holmes led all scorers with 16 points, while Marcus Washington had 13.
Three Admirals had 10 points each. Dave McKeithen, Geoffrey Stinebaugh and Joby Allen each reached double figures. Camp Campbell added eight for Bayside.
Foley (2-2) will host Gulf Shores on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Bayside (6-2) will host St. Paul’s on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Foley 43,
Bayside Academy 39
FOLEY – KiKi Youngblood scored six points in the fourth period and Misha Cambridge made five-of-six free throws to close out a 43-39 win for Foley over the Bayside Academy Lady Admirals on Monday.
Cambridge finished with a team-high 16 points, while Youngblood finished with 12 points in the win for the Lady Lions.
“KiKi’s height is such a dominant factor out there,” Foley head coach Shane Jones, who has coached the Lady Lions to a 2-1 record, said. “If we can get the ball to her and let her do her thing, she can be a great factor for us this year.
“We emphasize free throws every day, and Misha stepped up big there at the end. She made five-of-six free throws and that really helped us close it out tonight.”
Foley trailed Bayside 23-22 at the end of the third period before taking the lead on its third possession in the fourth when Philly Adams made a two point basket. Youngblood followed Adams with a lay up after stealing the ball away from Bayside near midcourt. Foley never trailed after Youngblood’s basket.
“In the fourth quarter we put something in that we hadn’t done before and the girls adapted well,” Jones said. “We went to a bigger lineup to try and get some movement out of our bigger players and it worked really well because the girls responded.”
Madeleine Philpot led Bayside Academy with 18 points. Hannah Lee, Virginia Pittman and Caroline Beebe had six points each in the loss.
Foley will host Gulf Shores on Friday at 6 p.m. Bayside Academy will host St. Paul’s on Saturday at 1 p.m.
