Foley, Ala. - The Foley City Council unanimously approved a request at Monday's meeting by David Thompson, recreation director, to replace the outdoor movie screen used for the music and a movie event.
Thompson said the new screen would cost over $7,400, and this is a budgeted item for fiscal year 2011. Thompson also said the screen the city currently has is "coming apart at the seams."
The screen lasted around four years, Thompson said, which is around how long he expected it to last.
The city plans to host outdoor movie showings for residents at Heritage Park in the summer. Thompson said there will be music and a movie events on each Friday from May 13 to June 12.
"Last year we did it for two and a half months and attendance was good the first two times, but it tailored off," Thompson said. "This year we're limiting it to five quality movies."
Thompson said this will be the fourth year the city does outdoor movie showings at Heritage Park.
