Foley City Council approves repairs, revised rules and regs

FOLEY, Ala. — Foley City Council members approved several resolutions this week having to do with maintenance and upkeep on the Community Development Department building on North Alston Street.

A termite bond for $790 was approved as was $3,205 dollars for roof repairs by S & H Contracting. Council members also approved $4,689 for miscellaneous carpentry repairs on the building.

Approval was also given for new rules and regulations for the Foley Senior Center, those coming from the Senior Center Advisory Council.

With Foley Police Department’s recommendation, the council agreed to recommend approval of a Lounge Retail Liquor license to the Alabama Beverage Control Board in Montgomery. The license applicant is G G Enterprises LLC under the trade name of Scuttlebutt Pub at 319-A N. McKenzie St. Councilman Charlie Ebert III abstained.

Emergency repairs to the emergency door at Foley City Jail were approved in the amount of $9,864. Approval was also given for a resolution approving purchase of a rotating binder carousel to store 53 three-ring binders to hold outstanding warrants.

A request from Foley Fire Department was approved to purchase one Fire Extinguisher Training System in the amount of $10,260, the amount to be taken from FFD’s ad valorem fund.

A resolution was approved for use of the CDARS Program as an investment alternative for city funds and establishment of policies for placement of those funds. A second resolution recommending purchase of six $1.5 million CD’s over a three month period through Vision Bank was also approved in connection with CDARS.

Approval was given for a change order by Hutchinson Moore & Rauch LLC to include installation of a pump, meter and electrical components in the Wetland Treatment and Reuse Pilot Study Project.

For the third year, “The Giving,” a community outreach project, was given approval to use John B. Foley Park on Dec. 12, 2009 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. “Very worthwhile” is the way Mayor John Koniar described the event.

Council members agreed to waive fees for South Baldwin Chamber Foundation’s use of Heritage Park and Pavilion on March 19-20 for the BBQ & Blues Cook-off fundraiser. This will be the second time the fundraiser has been held.

The council approved Joanne Horton’s appointment to the Revitalization & Beautification Board.

Council members also approved accepting proposals for Graham Creek Nature Preserve signage and funds for Heritage Harbor Days “Vendor Awards.”

The council also agreed to put up “No Smoking” signs at the Pavilion at Heritage Park.

Mayor Koniar read separate proclamations declaring November as “National American Indian Heritage Month” and “National Hospice Month.”

Monday’s council meeting was attended by 13 South Baldwin Chamber Junior Ambassadors as part of their “Government Day” activities.
