FOLEY, Ala. — Three liquor licenses on Monday’s city council agenda were tabled at the request of Police Chief David Wilson.

Wilson told the mayor and council that Foley Police Department hadn’t finished background checks on the three establishments. He asked that the licenses be brought up at the council’s next meeting on May 3.

The three businesses are Big Country’s 2 at 2011 S. McKenzie St., Club Onyx at 709 S. Maple St., and Shogun Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar at 3187 S. McKenzie St.

Council members approved a resolution approving $176.60 in residential sanitation write-offs for a 120-day period.

Other resolutions passed included the city’s participation in the 2010 Sales Tax Holiday in August; acceptance of a monetary donation from Tanger Properties to the Foley Fire Department; and the waiving of initial zoning fees in association with the legislative annexation taking place along the Foley Beach Express.

The council approved a resolution accepting a low bid for roadbed material for the Graham Creek Nature Preserve roadway across the Holmes property. Separate resolutions were approved in connection with Volkert & Associates not to exceed $7,000 (Cypress Pond Drainage Project) and $5,000 (Northwest Quadrant Drainage Project). Councilman Wayne Trawick abstained on both.

The council approved the purchase of a brush truck for the Fire Department ($13,950) and a low bid of $21,802 for hydraulic rescue tools for FFD. Also, $3,415 was approved for a new Laserfiche server and software.

The council approved releasing payment of funds budgeted at $20,000 in the Public Relations/Community Development account for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. (Councilman Charlie Ebert III abstained.)

Council members approved the following activities:

Foley Post Office’s use of Heritage Park on May 15 to promote new stamps that in turn promote food for shelter pets. Baldwin Animal Rescue Center will also be on hand to promote spaying, neutering and adoption of animals.
