FOLEY, Ala. — The Community Development Department’s monthly report continues to reflect an improving economy locally, especially in light of last year’s construction figures. CDD’s report was given earlier this week.
For October, the Building/Inspections Department issued 126 total permits at a total evaluation of over $3.2 million. Twelve single-family residences were permitted last month at a total construction valuation of over $1.6 million. One new commercial permit was issued for Coastal Investment Medical Properties ($980,000).
City inspectors performed 381 inspections in October.
Environmental/Code Enforcement handled 27 citizen complaints in October and undertook 17 enforcement actions. Eighty-five code enforcement inspections were undertaken.
Foley Police Department made 63 misdemeanor arrests in October and 11 felony arrests. A total of 78 misdemeanor warrants were served and 15 felony warrants. Officers made 18 DUI arrests, wrote 246 traffic citations and 448 warnings. There were 55 traffic accidents worked and officers assisted motorists 116 times and made 820 close patrols.
Officers also answered 120 alarms and had 180 positive citizen contacts and made 167 official business visits.
Foley dispatchers had 937 calls for police service during October and logged 4,001 total computer aided dispatch entries.
There were 10 controlled substance arrests in October, four drug paraphernalia arrests and three drug raids.
FPD’s Criminal Investigations Department received 70 new cases in October and solved 27 cases that resulted in five felony arrests and three misdemeanor arrests. CID had 25 previous unsolved cases. CID also made 16 domestic violence follow-ups.
One registered sex offender left the city in October leaving a total number of 18 registered sex offenders.
Foley City Jail had 235 total arrestees last month. The highest number in jail at one time was 36 and the lowest 17.
The School Resource Officer made six reports, held 10 discipline meetings and effected five arrests and releases.
The Foley Police Mounted Unit made one patrol in October and appeared at three community events.
Animal services handled 93 calls and captured 23 animals, four of which were returned to owners. Nine animals were transported to the County Shelter.
FPD’s Community Services Division held one strategy meeting and two Neighborhood Watch preliminary meetings in October. FPD’s Community Outreach and Development held four GED classes involving 68 GED participants.
Crimes reported during October included the following: robbery of persons, 3; burglary of residence, 4; burglary of vehicle, 2; felony theft, 12; misdemeanor theft, 26; theft of vehicle, 3; domestic incidents, 25; criminal mischief, 14; white collar crimes, 7.
Foley Fire Department had 77 total responses in October, up from 61 the month before.
Among the incidents were the following: medical assists with EMS crews, 19; motor vehicle accident with injuries, 11; motor vehicle accidents with no injuries, 6; unauthorized burning, 4; false alarms, 3; public service assistance, 2; building fire, mobile home fire, vehicle fire, extrication from vehicle, biological hazard, 1 each.
During October, which was “Fire Prevention Month,” FFD was at 18 events reaching 920 adults and 1,528 children.
Seventy-five fire safety inspections were made during the month.
Fire Chief Joey Darby reported that 89 pages of specifications on FFD’s new custom fire pumper were going out.
