FOLEY, Ala. — While incident responses by Foley Fire Department last month were the lowest in the past fiscal year — 61 — FFD continued to respond to a lot of motor vehicle-related incidents.
During September, Foley firefighters gave medical assists to EMS crews 19 times. FFD personnel responded to 13 motor vehicle accidents with injuries, four with no injuries, and two involving motor vehicles and pedestrians. Fire Chief Joey Darby told the mayor and city council this week that two motor vehicle accidents involved fatalities.
FFD also responded to two vehicle fires, a fire in a mobile home, two smoke removals, and a gasoline spill. Other responses included a cooking fire, an extrication from a building or structure, an extrication from a vehicle, an unauthorized burning and two false calls.
Darby reported that with the fiscal year ending last month, FFD had conducted 1,092 inspections for the year.
During September, FFD taught CPR to 23 adults and attended 14 public education events, making contact with 343 adults and 197 children.
FFD responded to 1,072 incidents during fiscal year 2008-09.
Foley Police Department made 69 misdemeanor arrests and 10 felony arrests during September. Concerning warrants, 94 misdemeanor and three felony warrants were served last month.
FPD officers made 23 DUI arrests, wrote 262 citations and 472 warnings. Officers gave 97 motorist assists and handled 47 motor vehicle accidents. There was one traffic homicide. Officers answered 120 alarms and had 215 positive business contacts.
FPD Dispatch handled 1,036 calls for service in September.
Concerning drugs, four misdemeanor marijuana arrests were made and two felony marijuana arrests. There were four controlled substance arrests, two drug paraphernalia arrests and one drug raid/search warrant.
FPD’s Criminal Investigations Division received 77 new cases in September with 34 previous cases unsolved. Investigators solved 18 cases that resulted in eight felony arrests, two misdemeanor arrests and eight exceptional clearances. Investigators followed up on seven domestic violence incidents.
There was one new sex offender registration in the city last month bringing the total number of sex offenders in the city to 26.
Foley City Jail had 279 arrestees processed in September. The highest number in jail at one time was 46, the lowest number was 27. Assistant Police Chief Randy Bishop told the mayor and council that food for inmates is now being done in-house at what should be a saving for the city.
The School Resource Officer took seven reports last month and held eight discipline meetings. One arrest was effected.
FPD’s Mounted Police Unit made two patrols during the month and was on hand for two city events.
Animal Services had 86 calls and transported 10 animals to the County Shelter.
Community Services held one strategy meeting during the month and one Neighborhood Watch meeting with three crime prevention sessions. There was one Police Services Expo held in September.
Community Outreach and Development had 48 GED participants in four GED classes held. There were also two youth activity events.
Among the crimes reported in September were the following: one robbery of a person; one commercial robbery; six burglaries of residences and three attempts; 21 felony thefts and 24 misdemeanor thefts; 22 domestic incidents; nine criminal mischief; six white collar crimes; and three death investigations.
The Community Development Department report reflected 104 total permits issued in September at a total construction valuation of $973, 068. Among the permits issued were six single-family residential permits at a total construction valuation of $644,367.
City inspectors performed 351 inspections during September.
Planning & Zoning handled 36 plan reviews and 34 permit reviews as well as two zoning complaints.
Environmental/Code Enforcement handled 34 citizen complaints last month, took 27 enforcement actions and made 73 code enforcement inspections and seven environmental inspections.
