FOLEY, Ala. - Foley Mayor John Koniar and the Foley City Council authorized the city's Caboose Club to go to bid on finding a replacement event train for Heritage Park.
Al Staple, club member, asked the mayor and council at Monday's work session for permission to seek a replacement train.
"The one we have is a bit of a safety hazard," he said. "It's wearing out. We thought it was a good time to get a new one."
Staple said the club has around $15,000 in donations, and it will only need $5,000 from the city.
The current train can be sold by the city to offset the requested funds. Staple said other towns and cities have used it before, so there could be some interest in purchasing it.
Staple also mentioned naming the new train after Councilman Charles Ebert III.
"We'd like to have his name on the train since he's done so much for us," Staple said.
Ebert left the room for the discussion.
