Foley Council conditionally OKs improvements

FOLEY — The city of Foley could see the addition of a large commercial endeavor in the near future.

During a special-called meeting Monday, the Foley City Council agreed to provide infrastructure changes on a 75-acre plat of land, located on Alabama Highway 59 just south of Lowe’s, that is owned by Lester Woerner. But that approval hinges on Woerner’s first finding a purpose for the property.

Thompson explained that such requests to the city are customary.

“They’ve been working with (Foley Economic Development Director) Jeff (Rouzie) for a few weeks,” he said.

“This is similar to projects we’ve done in the past,” Councilman Ralph Hellmich said at Monday’s meeting.

Councilman Charlie Ebert explained that such infrastructure improvements include roadway work and sewer addition, among other utilities.

Foley City Administrator Mike Thompson said that purpose could possibly include both commercial ventures and multi-family units.

The Council’s action followed an executive session that lasted more than 45 minutes.
