FOLEY, Ala. — It won’t be long now before Foley dog lovers have their own haven in which to bring their pooches for exercise and socializing.
Foley residents may notice yellow stakes in the ground next to the City Employee Clinic. City Administrator Mike Thompson explained that measurements are being taken to map out the area. But first, a group of residents has been asked to take part in a meeting to develop ideas for the park’s design.
“We have 20 or 30 folks who want to attend,” he said. “Based on the input, we’ll firm up the design.”
In January, the Foley City Council gave the go ahead to begin the process of adding The Foley Dog Park and overflow parking in the city’s downtown area. Thompson said the park will be located next to the new City Employee Clinic on Nelson property the city bought. Both sit behind the Post Office.
The project will also include overflow parking, which would contain about 85 spaces for vehicles. The cost of the project would be approximately $240,000, with a large portion of construction provided in-house.
