Foley Elementary School would like to thank Mrs. Sara Thompson for organizing our celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, 2012. We would also like to thank all of those volunteers who came to read to our children. Book characters came to life as many of our children and quite a few adults dressed up as their favorite book character. Among those characters spotted at our school were Cindy Lou Who, The Lorax, Pippi Longstocking, Sam I Am, and super heroes, pirates, fairies and princesses galore. Students arriving at school through the car line were greeted by the “Cat in the Hat” and Thing 1 and Thing 2. It was an amazing day with lots of fun and TONS of reading!
Our school proudly participates in South Baldwin Relay for Life every year! One of our Relay for Life fundraisers this year is Footprints for cancer. Please support us by leaving your footprint on Cancer. You can join us in this fight by donating your child’s shoe size in dollars to Relay for Life. For example, if your child wears a size 5, you can donate $5. If you can donate more that is great! If you can only donate $1 that is great! Send your donations to your child’s teacher by March 23rd.
Mrs. Pegoda’s speech classes are using computers for speech and language practice. Some of the sites the students visit are Walkte’s Web, Quia Speech and Softschool.com Grammar Games. The boys and girls enjoy finding new sites for practicing speech and language goals.
In Melanie Barton’s 2nd grade class the students are working hard in Math on using information from a graph or table to help solve problems. In AMSTI Science they are finishing up a unit on organisms. The kids have thoroughly enjoyed getting to have hands on lessons using millipedes, pill bugs, guppies, seeds, and plants. Through this they have learned needs and characteristics of organisms. The class has also been reading about firefighters and all the jobs they have to do. It is turning out to be a great community lesson.
