Foley Elementary School’s annual Academic Awards Recognition Program has been set for Monday May 21 and Tuesday, May 22. Family and friends are invited to celebrate our students’ success. On Monday, May 21 the Third Grade recognition will be 8:30-10:00 and the First Grade recognition will be 10:25-11:55. On Tuesday, May 22, Second Grade assembly will be 8:15-9:45 and Fourth Grade at 12:30-2:00.
Mrs. DeMaio's Kindergarten class is practicing their parts for the end-of-the-year Ocean Program. The students in the class will be electric eels, rock fish, and, of course, 2 drum fish to round out a version of "We Will Rock You" and "The Electric Slide".
Mrs. Lord’s Kindergarten classroom is getting ready for the Ocean Program on May 18th. They are learning the songs and practicing for the big performance. Mother’s Day is this Sunday so the students are busy little bee’s making their mom’s cards, crafts and other nice things. The boys and girls want to show their mom’s just how much they love and appreciate them.
Mrs. Laurendine’s class finished a unit on insects. Not only did they make collages like Eric Carle’s art work, they made their own addition sentences and used circles to make a caterpillar illustrating addition sentences.
Mrs. Lazauskas’ students are planting seeds and observing their growth. The students have planted wheat seeds using a straw, paper towel and water. They will watch and see if it grows without any soil. In reading and social studies, the boys and girls are learning about inventors like Alexander Graham Bell and Ben Franklin.
Mrs. Worch’s Third grade class is beginning to wind down for the year; testing is over, and everyone is looking forward to Field Day on Friday. They have just finishing a fascinating AMSTI Science unit on the Human Body. This Human Body study encompassed the skeletal and muscular systems. Students constructed skeletons, and dissected owl pellets as part of the unit study. The final Science unit will be a study of Force and Motion/Simple Machines.
JoAnne Vincent’s students are working on measurement and will be drawing life-size imprints of their bodies and measuring them! The boys and girls are also going to be learning about the solar system and making mobiles of the sun, moon, and stars!
