Foley falls short against Auburn in comeback bid

FOLEY, Ala. - Class 6A No. 2 Auburn held off a furious Foley comeback and advanced to the third round of the AHSAA state playoffs with a 23-20 win on Friday.

Sage Ledbetter's field goal with 2:00 to play in the game sealed the win for Auburn (11-1).

The Tigers led 20-0 early in the third quarter before Foley scored 20 consecutive points. Tyler Cameron scored on a quarterback sneak with 3:46 in the third, then hit Demarcus Bingham (29 yards) and Johnny Williams (28 yards) on back-to-back touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 20.

Ledbetter hit a field goal on Auburn's first drive to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter. Tyus Flakes rushed for a Tiger touchdown at 8:58 in the second quarter and Auburn led 10-0 at the half. Flakes scored again on Auburn's first drive of the second half with a 46-yard touchdown run and Ledbetter hit another field goal after Foley fumbled on the ensuing kickoff return.

Keanu Brackin, Antreal Allen, Benjamin Coleman had interceptions for Auburn. Cameron Smith and Trevor Carvin had interceptions for Foley, who finished the season with a 6-6 record.
