The Foley Firefighters Association will be holding its annual Boston Butt Sale on April 7^th to benefit the Ralph Schumacher Scholarship Fund.

Ralph Schumacher was well known for his community work in the South Baldwin area.  He was a member of the Foley Fire Department for 42 years where he served four terms as fire chief.  Mr. Schumacher was honored as Foley’s Fireman of the Year and served as president of the Baldwin County Fire Chiefs’ Association and he was a member of the Alabama State Fire Chiefs’ Association.  He served in the U. S. Navy and U.S. Army Reserve.  Mr. Schumacher was inducted to the Foley High School Hall of Fame for his many years of service to its soccer program.

The Foley Firefighters Association began the Ralph Schumacher Scholarship Fund after his death in 2002, to honor his commitment to the community, Foley Fire Department, and the local youth.  These scholarships are now awarded annually by the Foley Firefighters Association to two graduating students from the South Baldwin area.  Since its inception, over $6,000 in scholarship monies have been dispersed locally. 

Helen Schumacher, wife of the late Ralph Schumacher,  stated, “On behalf of the Schumacher family, we are so thankful to the firefighters for their hard work and the community for their support of this fundraiser.  This scholarship program helps our local youth and that would have meant the world to Ralph.”

The Foley Firefighters Association is currently taking orders for the Boston Butt Sale until April 1^st.  They are $25 each and will be available for pick up on Saturday, April 7^th at the Foley Fire Department Station 2 on County Road 20 in Foley.
