FOLEY, Ala. - The Foley Firefighters Association will be selling its' Boston butts to residents for an Easter feast, with all proceeds going to the Ralph Schumacher Scholarship Fund.
The butts, which are cuts of pork, will cost $25, and the academic scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound student to help offset the cost of books and other fees.
"We try to pick two students from the Foley area, and we're giving two $750 scholarships to two Foley High School students," Robert Irwin, the association president, said, noting current seniors or former FHS students that are in college can apply for the scholarship.
The deadline to place an order is April 17 at 6 p.m. Pick-ups are scheduled for April 23 from 8 a.m. to noon.
"We'll put them on the fire at about 8 p.m on April 22 and let them cook all night, and they should be ready on Saturday morning," Irwin said.
The butts are 8 to 10 pounds, and the association asks that money is paid in advance so the group does not have more butts than there are orders.
"If they are paid for, it will be cooked and ready to pick up on Saturday," Irwin said.
