BAY MINETTE, Alabama – The Foley Lady Lions advanced to the semifinal round of the 6A Area 3 tournament at Baldwin County High School with a 37-31 win over Fairhope on Tuesday.

Foley will play host BCHS on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Robertsdale and Daphne will play in the other tournament semifinal at BCHS at 6 p.m.

The Lady Lions held Fairhope to just four points in the final period.

“We did a good job rebounding at the end,” Foley head coach Sally Jeter said. “One big thing we have had trouble with at the end of games is rebounding. We get up a little bit and we quit rebounding and think we can just let the clock run out. We have learned the hard way that you have to keep rebounding and keep possession of the ball in order to finish. And we hit some big free throws at the end, too.”

Foley senior Brittney Davis scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady Lions, who led 28-27 after three periods.

“Fairhope’s girls made it really hard for me to get the ball to her,” Jeter said of Davis’ play. “We struggled to get it to her. I kept trying to counter what Fairhope was doing, but Brittney just doesn’t quit. When her shots don’t fall she crashes the boards. She is one of those players that is just special. She finds a way to score regardless.”

Payton Kiser added six points for Foley in the win. Imani Kirksey led Fairhope with nine points in the loss.
