FOLEY, Alabama – Brittney Davis scored a game-high 26 points, including eight in the final five minutes of the game, as the Foley Lady Lions defeated Robertsdale 44-41 on Tuesday in Class 6A Area 3 play.

Foley trailed 26-24 at the half and 36-33 to start the fourth period. The Lions took the lead for the first time in the second half on a Davis basket with 2:22 to play. Robertsdale’s Austin Richardson scored with 1:51 left to give Robertsdale a 41-40 lead, then Davis answered with another score at the 1:13 mark. Ashley Brokenshaw blocked a Robertsdale shot with 57 seconds left and the Lady Lions forced a Robertsdale turnover with 42 seconds to play. Davis scored with 20 seconds left to give Foley a 44-41 lead and Robertsdale’s shot at the buzzer missed.

Foley’s defense held Robertsdale to just five points in the final period.

“I am so proud of them for finishing this game,” Foley head coach Sally Jeter said. “We have been talking all year about playing better defense. For us to be in a game we have to keep teams in the 40s, and we held Robertsdale to 41 tonight. We knew we had a chance if we could play good defense.”

Davis scored 26 points in her final home game at Foley High School. Davis, Brokenshaw, LeighAshton Watson and Xavess Rigsby were honored by the school in a Senior Night ceremony before the game.

“They just let out a big yell when we got to the locker room, almost like relief mixed with excitement,” Jeter said of her senior class. “They know they were capable of this the whole time, but they haven’t had the consistency to grow as a team. It was fun for them tonight. I’m glad to see them play so well in their last home game and to get to win it like that. I’m just so proud of them.”

Payton Kiser added eight points for Foley in the win. Madeleine Petite had 16 points, Richardson had 13 and Drea Curry added seven for Robertsdale in the loss.

Foley will visit Spanish Fort on Friday at 6 p.m. and will play at Gulf Shores on Saturday. Robertsdale will visit Gulf Shores on Friday at 6 p.m.

Jeter said that Class 6A Area 3 coaches will meet on Wednesday in Bay Minette to determine seeding, times and location for the area tournament, which will begin on Monday.

“This win absolutely gives us confidence heading into the tournament,” she said. “It shows that when we play defense, when we hit the goals that we set in practice, we can win.”

Robertsdale boys beat Foley 69-58: Alphonso Stewart and Josh Laird scored 20 points apiece as the Robertsdale Golden Bears defeated the Foley Lions 69-58 on Tuesday.

The Bears led 20-10 after one period and 37-29 at the half. The extended the lead to 48-34 in the third period. Rashad Hobby scored nine in the win for the Bears, who visit Gulf Shores on Friday.
