FOLEY — In less than a week, many a South Baldwin County home will be the gathering place for several generations of families on Thanksgiving, with members bringing their versions of traditional fare as they fellowship.
But not everyone will have that opportunity. Some South Baldwin residents don’t have family nearby. That’s why several organizations are offering a substitute. Two of them are right here in Foley.
The Foley Senior Center will have a Thanksgiving Day Lunch next Thursday. The meal will be served 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
“We will open our doors on Thanksgiving Day to anyone who would like to come and enjoy a traditional holiday dinner,” said Teresa Neese of Foley Senior Center. “We are partnering with Joe Aldrete and the congregation of Calvary Chapel in Foley.”
The Senior Center’s menu includes turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet-potato dishes, green beans and other vegetables, and desserts. In addition, Neese encourages attendees next week to contribute to the fare.
“Sometimes they have a dish they call their specialty,” she said.
Neese does ask that those wishing to attend the Senior Center’s Thanksgiving Lunch call 943-1877 and make a reservation by Tuesday.
Reservations are also needed to attend the free Thanksgiving dinner presented at Foley First Baptist Church. The annual meal will begin at 12:22 p.m. Thursday at FBC, which is located at 221 N. Alston St. To make a reservation, call 943-8352.
