FOLEY, Ala. — With Foley High School’s Lions kicking off the high school football season with a Jamboree on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Ivan Jones Stadium, Foley Police Department is reminding the public of certain basic rules.
It goes without saying that no alcohol, drugs, weapons or smoking will be allowed on school property, said Lt. David White.
“Our first big major concern again this year is parking,” White said.
“Be very mindful of where you’re parking. Don’t block driveways, park in somebody’s yard, or at intersections.”
Where intersections are concerned, White said fans should park 50 to 75-feet away from intersections.
“We didn’t ticket any cars last year but towed a couple of vehicles that parked in handicapped spaces.”
One reason for parking concerns this year at the stadium is new school construction going on at Foley Middle and Elementary schools, White said.
Ten or more Foley officers will be on hand at each of Foley’s five home games during the 2008 season, according to White, who described last year’s nationally-televised game against Daphne as being a case of “all hands on deck” for Foley police.
Members of FPD’s Mounted Patrol and Bicycle Patrol will also work this year’s games. FPD’s Command Post will be set up at the northwest corner of the stadium at Rose and Oak, White said.
Foley Lions’ first home game is Aug. 28 against Murphy High of Mobile. That will be followed by another home game on Sept. 5 against Baldwin County High School. Other home games will be against Robertsdale on Sept. 19 (Homecoming), Satsuma on Oct. 10, and Alma Bryant on Oct. 30.
Away games will be against Fairhope on Sept. 12, Mary Montgomery on Sept. 26, Daphne on Oct. 3, and McGill-Toolen on Oct. 17.
“Be safe and enjoy the game,” White said of being aware of the do’s and don’t’s.
