Foley, Ala. - Foley High School in partnership with State Farm Insurance, the Foley Fire Department and Foley Police Department will hold an "Operation Scared Safe" event at the field south of the school on March 16 at 9:30 p.m.
The event includes a car crash re-enactment where emergency vehicles respond to a crash scene with student and community actors portraying injured passengers and concerned parents. The purpose of the event is to teach students not to drive under the influence of alcohol.
“Operation Scared Safe is a wonderful opportunity for Foley High School to demonstrate to our students the devastation that can result from poor choices," FHS Principal Russ Moore said. "If this activity helps even one student make a choice to be safe on prom night, it will have been worth the efforts of the community. We are confident that it will impact many of our young people.”
The event is during FHS' Prom Week, and students and parents are invited to attend. After the presentation, students will be asked to sign a "Safe Prom 2011" pledge form stating they will not drink alcohol and drive on prom night.
“This event, although very graphic, is intended to impact our local students in a way so that they will hopefully make wise, healthy decisions during their prom night and for the rest of their lives," Frances Holk-Jones, a State Farm agent and event sponsor, said. "Sometimes being a teenager means feeling a bit invincible. Operation Scared Safe will show the reality of an alcohol-related crash and the potential devastation involved to not only the driver, but to the passengers and to their families. We love our students and want them to be safe.”
"It's been an honor working on the operation committee with Foley High School and the Foley Fire Department to be able to make a difference in the lives of our local Foley teenagers," Lindsay Schumacher, marketing coordinator for Frances Holk-Jones of State Farm agency, said.
The other participating groups include MEDSTAR Ambulance, Pine Rest Funeral Home, Little Bitty’s Towing and AirHeart at Sacred Heart Hospital.
