Foley High to induct new Hall of Fame class on Friday

FOLEY, Alabama — Foley High School will honor eight former athletes during its annual Hall of Fame ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Friday before the Foley Lions’ scrimmage against Gulf Shores at Ivan Jones Stadium in Foley.

A reception hosted by the FHS Alumni Association will be held in the Foley Elementary School cafeteria on Oak Street next to Ivan Jones Stadium’s west endzone beginning at 5:30 p.m. before the game.

The inductees include the following: The late Dale Younce was a star football player in the 1970 and 1971 seasons as a member of the class of 1972. He was highly involved in school activities and remained a leader in the community and within his class throughout his life. He served as president of Gulf Telephone and ran the Magnolia Hotel in his professional life and was active in many charitable and beneficial programs in the community.

Tommy Cleverdon is a member of the class of 1984 and was the leading tackler on the team and an honor student during his high school career. He went on to graduate from Auburn University and is currently Co-owner of Cleverdon Farms in Foley. He is active in youth sports, the local YMCA and St. Mark’s Lutheran church in his community.

Brad Gray is a member of the class of 1990 and was the leading blocker for one of the top playoff teams in school history in 8 of 12 games his senior year. Mr. Gray is well-known today in the Foley community as a leader of Foley Youth Football and as a volunteer and official in many of the city’s sports programs.

Britton Bonner graduated in 1992 and was a star running back for three seasons as a Lion. He went on to play football at Troy University and later earn a Law degree from Tulane University. He is currently a leader in his law firm and a leader in his community, recently serving as president of the board of directors for the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.

Rod Odoms also graduated in 1992 and was also a star running back for three seasons as a Lion. He and teammate Bonner amassed over 2,000 yards rushing as a one-two punch. He is a long-time employee of Goodrich in Foley and is involved with his family and community.

Jeff Randa was a star punter for the Lions as a member of the class of 1994 and earned All-State recognition for the his prowess at the position as well as being named to the Alabama High School All-Decade Team in 2000. He went on to play and coach at Troy University and is now active in the education of youth in the Atlanta, Ga. area.

Terry Scott is a member of the class of 1997 who was renowned as a big-play receiver who was a punishing blocker despite his slight build as recognized by the Mobile Register on its All-Tough Team. He went on to play college football before returning to the Foley community. In addition to other community involvement, Scott serves as an assistant football coach at Foley Middle School.

Sally Jeter is a 1997 graduate of Foley High School where she was named 2nd team All-State in both basketball and soccer. She went on to star at UAB as a basketball guard and team captain where she led the Blazers to an NCAA Sweet Sixteen and an NWIT Final Eight during her career. She has spent the last ten years coaching college basketball and working in athletic departments. She has chosen to return to her alma mater as the Lady Lions basketball coach this school year.
