Foley hoops star Brittney Davis signs with Spring Hill College

FOLEY, Alabama – Foley basketball player Brittney Davis, who eclipsed 1,000 career points as a senior, signed with Spring Hill College in a signing ceremony on Monday at Foley High School.

Davis said it didn’t take long for her to realize Spring Hill was where she wanted to be.

“Once I got on campus I fell in love with it,” Davis said. “I just loved the campus and I loved the coaches. They actually wanted me, too. I didn’t have to go beg them for an offer, they put the offer on the table right then and there. That meant a lot, that they really wanted me.”

Davis thinks there is something special about basketball, a sport she has played since the fifth grade.

“At first it was just something to do to break a little sweat, but high school basketball molded me,” Davis said. “It is more than just a game. I love the work ethic and I love how it makes you a better person. It teaches life lessons like overcoming adversity. There is so much more too basketball than just being a game.”

Foley girls basketball coach Sally Jeter appreciates Davis because of the effort she gives on the court and off.

“She is one of those special players that I wasn’t sure existed anymore,” Jeter said. “She just lives to play. She is very coachable and I think she will have a very successful college career. I’m excited to see her land at Spring Hill. I think it will be a very good fit for her.

“I can’t leave the gym open enough for Brittney. She is one of those girls that from the time I open the gym she is there early and she stays late. She is always lifting weights, and every drill she gives 110 percent effort. She plays well with her teammates and she puts a lot of pressure on herself to perform. Regardless of the outcome, she gives me everything she has every single play.”

Spring Hill head coach Karen McConico said the best thing about Davis is how hard she works.

“I love how hard Brittney Davis works,” McConico said. “In college you don’t always have to have the top skill players to be successful, but you always need hard workers. You have to have work ethic plus skill to be successful. I think her work ethic will help her be a pretty good player in college.”

A multi-sport athlete who also plays volleyball and is on the track and field team at Foley, Davis said she plans to focus on basketball at the college level.

“It is hard to pick a favorite sport because I just love sports in general,” Davis said. “I just started track just because I always wanted to do it. When it comes down to it I definitely see myself in a basketball uniform and I’m pretty sure coach McConico is going to keep me super busy with basketball.”
