The Foley Intermediate School Spelling Bee was a great success. The students worked very hard to learn the words for the Spelling Bee. They have been excited. Students, faculty and staff encouraged the students to learn and still have fun.

Our guest pronouncer was Dr. Steve Horn from the Foley Public Library. I interviewed one of the people in the Spelling Bee and her name is Ariel Hall. I asked her if she had fun and she said, “Absolutely.” She was very supportive of the winner.

The winner and the student to represent us at the Baldwin County Spelling Bee is Bunni Lerille. The runner-up was Kevin Wilson. Also Ian Goecke received the Best Enunciation of Letters Award. Bunni Lerille also won the Poise Award. It was such a fun event.

At Foley Intermediate School, we are all about the learning, so Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Lester’s sixth grade all-girls class went on a field trip to the 9/11 Exhibit at the Museum of Mobile. We went on Nov. 17. We saw an old boot that was in the fire. We saw a wall of touching stories about what happened that day. When this tragedy happened, we were only 1 year old.

We wanted to know the history of 9\11 from our teachers, so we interviewed our fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Wheaton. She told us about how she reacted when she heard about 9/11. She was at the school in her classroom. She was so shocked because she didn't think that we would be attacked by terrorists.

Mrs. Wheaton told her class and listened on the radio for more news. Mrs. Frederick is another fifth grade teacher. She told us how she reacted, as well. Her class was at P.E. while she was in her classroom. She was so devastated because she didn't think that would happen to our country. When she found out she turned on the radio and listened for more news. We had so much fun learning about our history because we learned so many facts about 9/11.

The Foley Fire Department had a fire safety competition to write the best essay. The fire department picked two winners from fifth and sixth grade. The winners of the Fire Safety Essay Contest won a Walmart gift card and got to take a picture with the firefighters.

Our winner was Will McFarland from sixth grade. Our fifth grade winner was Tyler Wilson. Congratulations to these students. They did a great job!!
