FOLEY — Foley Intermediate School Principal Lee Mansell and bookkeeper Maureen Stiles have been placed on paid administrative leave.
Baldwin County Public Schools spokesman Terry Wilhite said the two were placed on leave last Monday, pending a human-resources review.
“Like any other employer, we take personnel actions as we deem necessary, including putting employees on leave during human resources reviews,” he said via email. “One needs to be extremely careful in assuming or speculating anything related to any internal review. An internal review means operations are being reviewed to see if employees are abiding by policies and procedures.”
Details behind the administrative leave was not made available. However, Wilhite did rule out one reason for the action.
“These employee actions have nothing to do with the safety or security of students,” he said.
Baldwin County Public Schools Board President Norman Moore added that the details of the leave are even unknown to him and his fellow board members.
“If there is a disciplinary decision, it would be appealed to the School Board,” he said in a phone interview. “I should not have any outside influence.”
In Mansell’s absence, Pat Halisham is serving as acting principal of Foley Intermediate.
“She is a veteran educator and administrator in Baldwin County Schools. Kids love her,” Wilhite said. “She is doing a great job.”
Wilhite said that the issue doesn’t seem to have negatively affected classes.
“Foley Intermediate is a great school and continues to serve students well,” he said.
Wilhite added that the internal human-resources review of Mansell and Stiles is onging.
“The two employees will remain on leave pending the outcome of the review,” he said.
