Last Monday, March 5th, the G.E.P. students of Foley Intermediate School went to Summerdale Elementary to attend a jousting tournament. The host of Full Metal Jousting, Shane Adams, from the History Channel came to teach us about the medieval times. He taught us about the knights, including information about the tournaments they attended. The Knights of Valour entertained us with exciting horsemanship, bravery, and chivalry. The G.E.P. students even watched a tournament between Sir Bob and Sir Robert. Overall, Sir Robert won the tournament! Amber Cruz said she had a lot of fun and wants to go again!

The G.E.P. students also are learning about heraldry and creating our own coat of arms. First, we had to choose a shield shape. Next, we had to choose how to divide them. Third, we had to choose colors and tell what they mean. We had to pick symbols and tell what they mean. Then, we had to create our shield out of foam board and paint the shield. Amber Cruz’s symbol of a dog means courage and loyalty. She learned that the color silver means peace of mind. We enjoyed learning about heraldry.

We are having a school fundraiser for Foley Intermediate. The students are selling discount cards. They are raising money for school technology for classrooms and the computer labs. Students will earn prizes for selling cards, too. If our whole school can reach the goal of 700 cards, Mrs. Mansell will dress up like a clown with crazy hair! Help our school by buying one!
