FOLEY — Foley United Methodist Church’s third annual Lenten Lunch series kicks off Thursday.

The third annual event that marks the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter is an invitation to the South Baldwin community to the Foley church’s spirit center for lunch each Thursday through March 21 at 11:30 a.m. for a meal, speaker, congregational singing and special music, for a $5 donation to cover the cost of the meal. In addition, an agency of the day will be spotlighted, with opportunities to contribute available.

“It’s a light lunch at 11:30, then a service at 12,” Donna Blankenship-Tindall, Lenten Lunch co-organizer, said in an interview.

With the series theme of “Shouting Stones (from Luke 19:37-40),” Thursday’s line up will feature speaker the Very Rev. Paul Zoghby of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley, prayer by Pastor Benny Richardson of Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church in Daphne and agency of the day Ecumenical Ministries.

The remainder of the schedule is as follows:

* Feb. 21: Speaker, Kim Tatum of St. Andrew by the Sea in Elberta, prayer by Sr. Pastor Joe Aldrete of Calvary Chapel Fellowship Church in Foley and agency of the day is Family Promise.

Feb. 28: Speaker, the Rev. Michael Bonham of Peace Lutheran Church in Gulf Shores, prayer by Donna Esslinger of St. Paul’s Episcopal Chapel in Magnolia Springs and agency of the day is Boys and Girls Club.

March 7: Speaker, Thoung Doffie of Abiding Love Fellowship in Foley, prayer by Rick Upchurch of First Presbyterian Church in Foley and agency of the day is Under His Wings.

March 14: Speaker, Jody Beth Melton of Swift Presbyterian Church in Foley, prayer by the Rev. Bill Watts of Daybreak United Methodist Church in Foley and agency of the day is Repair Baldwin.

March 21: Speaker, Aubry Fuller of Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Summerdale, prayer by Kelly Tibbs of First Baptist Church Foley and agency of the day is The Lighthouse.
