MOBILE, Alabama – The Foley Lions rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the sixth inning to beat the Theodore Bobcats 6-5 in the BayBears High School Classic finale on Wednesday at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Austin McWaters scored from third on a Theodore balk, then Patrick Grumbley drove in Brandon Fontaine and Drake Deisner in to give Foley a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Kelly Gunn pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win for Foley (3-1). Gunn struck out two hitters in 2 2/3 innings of relief of starter Brax Garrett, who struck out three and gave up one earned run in 4 2/3 innings.
The Lions scored first on Deisner’s sacrifice fly RBI in the bottom of the first. They added a run on Garrett’s sacrifice in the bottom of the third and led 2-0. In the fifth Stormm Garrett scored after Bryce Guery’s line drive to right field was misplayed and Foley led 3-2. Theodore scored three in the top of the sixth on a bases loaded walk followed by a two-run double from Chase Gurley.
