FOLEY, Alabama - The Foley High School Basketball teams are slam dunking to fight cancer with a winning team, the American Cancer Society. On Dec. 17, the Foley Lions will host the Baldwin County Tigers in a “Coaches vs. Cancer” benefit game.

The event will begin with the JV (4:30 p.m.) varsity girls (6 p.m.) and varsity boys (7:30 p.m.) at Foley High School.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Last year, over 2,000 colleges and high schools participated in the Coaches vs. Cancer program.

“I am really proud of the Foley Basketball program for committing to fight this disease,” Foley head coach Coach Shumbe Hunter said. “It’s a cause we all connect with, and a fight we can win. Students and team members have gone the extra mile to raise funds and awareness, and we’ll be showing off our success during the Foley Lions vs. North Baldwin Tigers on Monday.”

During the games, the Lions will sell pink bracelets, chance tickets and “Wall of Hope” cards. Funds raised through Coaches vs. Cancer help the American Cancer Society save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer.

The initiative combines the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of athletic coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness, fundraising, and advocacy programs.

The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

Since 1993 the initiative has raised more than $85 million dollars to fund groundbreaking research, provide up-to-date cancer literacy, advocate for public health policies and deliver services to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
