DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne police on Monday arrested a man identified in connection with a Nov. 14 robbery in the Lake Forest area.

Bernard Curtis Adams, 33, of Foley, was arrested on first-degree robbery at 1:45 p.m., according to a news release.

“Through an investigation probable cause was established to arrest Adams for the attack of the victim in Lake Forest,” the release said.

Detective James Mathews on Tuesday confirmed the information and said the Foley Police Department nabbed Adams on a Daphne arrest warrant. Later Monday, Adams was transferred to the Daphne Police Department for processing; he’s currently at the Baldwin County Corrections Center.

A woman on Nov. 14 was walking in Lake Forest when a man attacked her with a wooden object and stole some items from her purse, police reported.

The woman, in her mid-20s, was walking near the 200 block of Ridgewood Drive between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. when the suspect — described as a black man in his mid-20s — approached her, asking for money or cigarettes, police said. The woman said she had nothing to give and he followed her, according to authorities.

“We know he followed her to the corner of Ridgewood and Bayview (Drive),” Detective Lt. Jud Beedy said. “About 100 yards down the road.”

The man then hit her in the face with a piece of wood or a stick, police said.

“She said it was a 2-by-4 but we never recovered it,” Beedy said. “We don’t know exactly what it was; it might have just been a stick that he picked up.”

“She was not knocked unconscious; when he hit her, she fled the scene (to report the crime at a nearby house) and she dropped her purse,” Beedy said, adding that the man took some items from her purse and fled the scene.
