Foley man charged with arson

Flames tore through a Foley apartment early Saturday morning and according to police reports the fire is believed to have been set intentionally.

The fire resulted in apartment 505 in the Glendale Apartment complex on Juniper Street in Foley being completely ravaged by the conflagration.

Foley first responders received a call at 4:08 a.m. and responded to the fire according to police reports.

The Foley Fire Department was able to successfully extinguish the fire, but the apartment had already sustained extensive damage according to police reports.

According to police reports there were only two residents of the apartment home at the time the fire broke out. The apartment was home to four residents, one of the residents had spent the night at another location.

When the fire was reported to a 911 dispatcher by a resident, the resident said one of his roommates, who he identified as Osman Edgardo Gomez, 22, of Foley may have started the fire according to the police report.

Gomez was later found by a Foley officer walking on Azalea Avenue near the apartment. According to police reports, when Gomez was questioned he admitted that he set his bed on fire before leaving the apartment.

Prior to the fire, Gomez and the two roommates who were present in the apartment when the fire broke out were involved in an argument where Gomez allegedly made threats according to police reports.

All damage was limited to the apartment where the fire began. No injuries were sustained during the fire. Foley Police, Foley Fire and Alabama State Fire Marshal's officials investigated the fire.

Gomez has been charged with first degree arson and was taken to the Baldwin County Corrections Center.
