GULF SHORES, AL – A Foley man was still in jail on Oct. 12 following his arrest on Oct. 10 in an early morning traffic accident. He is being held on a $27,000 worth of bonds.

Michael Robert Menslage, 35, reports say, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury, assault and driving under the influence of combined substances.

“On Oct. 10 at approximately 1:32 a.m. Michael Robert Menslage was traveling north on Alabama 59 at Cotton Creek Drive when according to witnesses he swerved enough to his left to strike a motorcycle stopped in the turn lane,” Sgt. Jason Woodruff said. “Witness said Menslage’s Volvo had been swerving prior to the accident.”

After striking the motorcyclist Menslage continued driving.

“Menslage left the scene driving north and he was located in the 3800 block of Gulf Shores Parkway by an ALEA Trooper,” Woodruff said. “He was arrested there by GSPD for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. Subsequent field sobriety tests revealed he was DUI.”

Woodruff said the motorcyclist had non-life threatening injuries but did require surgery on his ankle prompting an assault charge against Menslage.

Leaving the scene of an accident with injury and the assault charge are both felonies. In addition to the driving under the influence charge Menslage was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The bond on leaving the scene is $15,000, the assault bond is $10,000 and the other charges come with a $1,000 bond each.
